Intel confirms its 13th Gen flagship will have a peak 6GHz frequency, 24 cores and 32 threads (Antony Leather)

Above you can see on the right, the 6GHz figure. It's previous fastest CPU for its current socket was the Core i9-12900KS, which could hit a peak of 5.5GHz so the the expected 13900K is adding an impressive 500MHz on top of that. The company also confirmed the flagship CPU - the expected Core i9-13900K will offer eight performance cores and 16 efficient cores, offering a maximum of 32 threads.

The new processors are expected to launch soon as it continues to compete with AMD, which is expected to release its Ryzen 7000 'Zen 4' processors and new AM5 socket later this month. Intel, on the other hand, is continuing to use its existing LGA1700 socket and associated chipsets, with the new 13th Gen processors being backwards compatible.

Speaking at its technology tour in Israel this week, the company's Corporate Vice President, Isic Silas, also gave details on background of the new hybrid core architecture used in the current Alder Lake and next generation Raptor Lake processors. The hybrid architecture of differing core types was originally rejected internally so wasn't originally part of the company's plans for its 12th Gen products.

Schlomit Weiss, the company's Senior Vice President and general manager of Design Engineering also revealed some interesting statistics around the new Raptor Lake CPUs, such as a development cycle that was six months shorter than Alder Lake 12th Gen CPUs and advanced quality control now finds over 50 per cent of faults using AI alone to speed up the development process.
